6th Grade Music Video Project

Launch the media gallery 1 playerIn music, the 6th grade class created music videos to some of their favorite songs. Using iOS devices, these students created their own videos to match the songs.

This project in Emily Fricke's middle schol choir class envolved out of a karaoke unit, where students would pick & practice a song and eventually perform it in front of the class.
"It was hard for some students who aren't as confident so I would let them have partners if they wished," Mrs. Fricke said. "Even though we perform regularly, the student's don't usually get a chance to put their own personality into it, and this gives them a chance."
This semester, the class used technology to create their own creative projects through a new avenue -- creating music videos.
"I was hoping that it would bring the students out of their shells a bit and push them to explore their creativity and performance," she said.
Using a couple of different iOS apps, students used iPads and iPhones to capture and edit their videos.
"I knew I wanted them to explore their creativity and to create something that they wouldn't normally get to create," Mrs. Fricke said. "I feel like most of the students did an excellent job working together and validating each other ideas."
"I wanted fresh looks on songs that maybe most of them had already seen videos to. And I wanted to see creative thinking and ideas for each of the songs."
With a blank slate, the students could put their own creative touches into the video through different types of shots, video treatments and editing styles.
"I think the students liked that the project was outside of the box," Mrs. Fricke said. "It was kind of free reign. It was something they don't really get to do in any other class."
