Mrs. Benson's First Grade News
April 03, 2017
Wow, it is spring time in our first grade classroom. We have been talking about all the things that animals and people do for the different seasons as they change. We also know what helps make the seasons happen, as the earth revolves around the sun. What we would like to know more about is why the weather is so hard to figure out. We often wonder why it is raining during our recess time? We really would prefer that it rain at night and be sunny during the day. We have been doing a lot of Go Noodle inside fun with technology. It is a lot of fun and movement, but we miss the warm sun and the fresh spring air.
It did stop raining for one afternoon and our class was able to walk to the post office to mail a friendly letter that each student wrote to their parents. That was fun! We saw the new buds on the trees, heard geese migrating back to Nebraska, noticed the grass, flowers, and weeds were getting green and growing.
We have been learning about comparing and contrasting new information from our reading material. Sometimes it is hard to come up with ideas that are the same, but easy to think of thoughts that are different.
I also challenged the class to make and create a drawing conclusion riddle. Everyone is figuring out that sometimes an author gives you clues to figure out the theme or big idea. The class had some great ideas and did a super job of presenting and sharing their riddles to each other.
Math facts are getting harder, but we are practicing them each day and becoming very fluent.
We are looking forward to the spring holiday and all the fun bright colors that go with it.
Have a wonderful spring season and enjoy.
