The fifth graders are currently taking part in “Trout in the Classroom” sponsored by The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
Trout eggs in the eyed stage arrived on January 11. The eggs should hatch in about a month. After they hatch, they will be alevins. The alevins will live off their yolk sacs until they become fry.

The fifth grade students will observe and learn about the trout lifecycle until May 5. Then the fifth graders will take a field trip to Aksarben Aquarium by Greta where the trout will be released. During the field trip, the students will fish and take part in other aquatic activities.
As the second semester progresses, the fifth graders will have an active role in many trout science lessons. The first lesson on January 12 was trout dissection. Mrs. Rother and the eighth grade students assisted. With their help, the fifth grade students were able to identify the outside parts of the trout and many of the trout’s inside organs. Thank you Mrs. Rother and the eighth graders for a very informative science lesson!
