Welcome to Fifth Grade
By Mrs. Tubbesing
August 30, 2016
The fifth graders have had an awesome start to the 2016-17 school year. Each fifth grade classroom has eighteen students. Both fifth grade sections have one new student. Mrs. Crotty's room has Jade Justus and Mrs. Tubbesing's room has Yadriel Cartagena. Jade and Yadriel are wonderful young people and they are fantastic additions to fifth grade. Welcome, Jade and Yadriel!
This year in science, we will spend the first semster learning about dinosaurs along with all the Nebraska state standards. During the second semester, the fifth graders will have the opportunity to raise trout as they continue with the state science standards.
In math and language arts, the fifth grade students are continuing to use Saxon Math and Reading Street. They have quickly adjusted back to the routines of those series.
Deputy Lynn Lyon will be teaching DARE once a week for ten weeks at the beginning of the school year. The fifth graders enjoy DARE and are looking forward to Deputy Lyon's visits.
On Friday, September 9, both fifth grade classrooms will take a field trip to the Living History Day held in Table Rock, Nebraska. We will have presentations on the steam engine, country schools, veterans, Jesse James, a print shop, Dutch oven cooking, blacksmithing, and several others. It will be an interesting, fun filled, educational day.
It is great to be back to school and the fifth graders are going to have an exciting year filled with many learning opportunities!
