Go With The Flo

April 12, 2019

HOSA is selling T-shirts to help raise money for an adapted bike for Flo, daughter of Daisy our high school secretary. The bike that they are looking at for Flo will help compensate for her balance problems, which make it impossible for her to ride a regular bicycle. This sort of adapted bicycle is quite expensive (around $1750), thus the fundraiser. Any money above the cost of the bike will go to Daisy to help with ongoing travel and medical costs.

As you may know, Flo has craniosynostosis, a condition in which one or more of the sutures (seams between the skull bones) close too early, causing problems with normal brain and skull growth. If pressure builds up inside the skull, surgery is required to re-open the sutures. Flo will likely need another of these surgeries in the next year or two. The cause of this syndrome is currently unknown.

"HOSA - Future Healthcare Professionals" may be unfamiliar to some of you as well. It is a new group to JCC this year. It is a national student organization similar to FFA or FBLA, but for students interested in pursuing any sort of health care career. It is new this year with 20 student members. Part of HOSA's mission is service to others, and students are encouraged to get involved in local projects that raise money to help others. After learning of this need for this from Sue Borcher, HOSA has adopted this as one of their service projects for the year.

Order forms are due by April 15 and can be turned in at the elementary, middle school or high school office or to one of the HOSA sponsors.
