The Johnson County Central Cheerleading Squad competed at the Nebraska State Cheer & Dance Competition Febr 18th – 19th, 2011. The members of the competing squad were: Brittany Wolken, Michelle Vongphakdy, Jennifer Carnagey, Emma Berkebile, and Taylor Dudley. They performed in two categories the Sideline Cheer Division and Nonbuilding/Nontumbling Cheer Division there was a total of 39 teams in the Class C Division for cheer and dance. In the Sideline Cheer Division there were 11 teams competing. In this category the squad must perform a cheer using props such as signs, poms, & a megaphone. They must have group jumps, effective crowd leading ability, transition move, formations/spacings, synchronization, sportsmanship and they can have tumbling in this category. They performed the “Victory T-Birds” cheer and Brittany Wolken painted the t-bird picture on the back of the signs that they used as the ending. In the Sideline division they have to complete their cheer within one minute. They judges really liked this “creative sign”. For the Nonbuilding/NonTumbling Cheer Division they competed against 15 teams. In this division, there must be a dance portion and cheer portions. They are judged on crowd leading, skills, execution, jumps, dance, formation/spacing, synchronization/choreography, overall effect, & sportsmanship. This all is to be done within 2 ½ minutes. This routine was designed by a cooperative effort with the squad members and coach. The squad won the Spirit Award for Class C. Only one of these awards is given in the Class C Division out of the 39 teams there. This award is given for the amount of spirit/sportsmanship they squad shows on and off the floor. This award is voted on by the coaches. This is a huge award and the school /community should be very proud of your cheer squad.
