JCC Shop Class
October 12, 2015
This year Mr. Moles’ dad is joining us once a week in the shop. Mr. Moles has an abundance of knowledge in woodworking and other shop techniques. One of the classes that he has helped the most is the construction class. In construction this year, we have done many projects. We started the year by helping the school nurse attach a countertop to her cabinets. The students thought that this would be an easy job, but ran into some problems when they realized that the cabinets were particle board. Mr. Moles helped the students come up with a way to attach the countertop without splitting the wood. After finishing the counter, the class was approached to create some shelves for the Horizons class, and then to redo the door to the music room. Now we are currently working to design a new shed for the golf team at the golf course. Mr. Moles is also helping in woods and general shop class. The woods class is in the process of building cabinets from scratch that look awesome, and the general shop class is finishing up their first quarter projects and working to design a new idea for the second quarter. There is a lot of talent and some very good ideas from the shop students at JCC. Pictured are the students working on the music room door, the cabinets that the woods class is making, and the construction class finishing up the drawings for the shed plans. The first quarter is just about over and the students have already accomplished a lot in the shop, I can’t wait to see what they can come up with in the next three quarters.
