Launch the media gallery 1 playerEnglish I has been studying short stories as part of our texts and genres unit. We have just finished “Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury and have been studying H.G. Wells’s influence upon his writing. The students have enjoyed considering the idea of time travel and how science fiction still mirrors real life. We are viewing H.G. Wells’s “The Time Machine” before Thanksgiving break. Freshmen will soon be creating their own original short stories to share with the class.
English II is wrapping up To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee by presenting projects of their own choosing. Projects range from creating a map of Maycomb County, a collage of images related to a theme from the novel, a newspaper consisting of a minimum of three articles, a character interview, three character “Wanted” posters, or a character’s scrapbook. The students can incorporate an artistic expression of their understanding of the book while also practicing their writing skills in several of the options. This project gives the students more freedom and choice in formulating a concrete representation of their understanding of the novel.
One Act competed at ECNC on November 14th, placing eighth out of eleven teams, with the comedy, “It’s Not You, It’s Me” by Don Zolidis. Hannah Swanda, Simon Rother, and Boston Bailey received Outstanding Actor awards. Our public performance had a larger turnout than last year and spare change was collected to get the Drama department closer to new curtains in the elementary auditorium. Thank you to all who turned out to support us!
District competition will be at Midland University at Fremont on November 29th. We perform second at 9:45 a.m. and would love to see you there. State One Act will be at Norfolk High School in the Johnny Carson Theater on December 7th.
