2014 Johnson County Coalition Banquet
By Peters, Joan on December 08, 2014
Kelsie Kaster and Hannah Swanda were awarded top student volunteers at the Johnson County Coalition’s annual banquet this past week. Awards were also presented to Terry Keebler and his wife for their generous support of our annual fun walk in the spring and to County Sheriff Scott Walton for his continued support.
Kelsie Kaster and Sara Kettelhake made a presentation on Digital Citizenship and Cyberbullying. This is a growing problem in youth as technology plays an even more part in their daily lives. Sexting is becoming a problem in middle school age children all across the nation. Parents need to be aware of the different apps that their students have on their smart phones, especially now with the different apps like Poof! that can hide apps that young people don’t want their parents to see. The coalition plans to look into these issues further and perhaps do additional activities with our youth and parents to educate and inform them of the latest statistics and where to find help.
At least the weather was not an issue this year with attendance. We had many parents attend the banquet and everyone enjoyed the delicious food.
